# Fork a chat

> Copy a chat to try a different path without changing the original.

Fork a chat when you want to take the same conversation somewhere else, for example to test another idea on a strategy, and keep the first chat as it is.

## Fork one

In the sidebar, open the menu of the chat and choose **Fork**. You get a new chat that holds the conversation up to that point, with the same order of messages. The cards those messages show are copied into it, and a strategy shown in the chat stays as it was at that moment, so your changes in the fork do not touch the original.

## Good to know

* A fork costs no credits. Nothing is run when you fork.
* Forking the same chat at the same point again opens the fork you already made instead of creating another.
* Very long chats and chats with many cards are cut to a limit, and the Agent tells you when something was left behind.
* Delete a fork like any other chat. Deleting it does not change the chat it came from.
