# TraderOS MCP tool reference

> Every group of TraderOS MCP tools: market overview, prices, key levels, GEX and options flow, calendars, studies, your strategies and coverage, with what each one answers.

Your assistant sees the tools your connection allows and picks them for you. This page lists them by group so you know what to ask for. Tool names are the ones your assistant shows.

> [!NOTE]
>
> An MCP connection is read-only. It reads market data and your own results; it cannot place orders or change your account. Every result carries its source, as-of time and age.

## Market overview

| Tool | What it answers |
| - | - |
| `market_overview` | Price, session change, relative volume and regime for a list of tickers (a watchlist or the index board). |
| `market_asset_class_overview` | How an asset class is doing: stocks, futures, crypto, forex. |
| `market_big_movers` | The biggest gainers and losers. |
| `market_scanner` | Run one of the Markets scanners: near key levels, expected volatility, highest relative volume, highest T-Score, strongest trends, positive gamma, compressed ranges, best mean reversion, best and live opening-range setups, biggest expected moves, gaps, premarket and confluence (tickers on three or more scanners). |
| `market_screener` | Screen the covered universe by conditions and sort the result. |
| `market_rank_group` | Rank a named group (megacaps, Dow, a sector, or your own watchlist) on a daily indicator such as RSI, distance from a moving average, 5-day return, volume or ATR, with the bar date of each value. |
| `get_market_overview` | A short read of the session plus the top movers. |

## Prices

| Tool | What it answers |
| - | - |
| `market_quote` | The latest price, bid, ask, previous close and day range, with the time it was captured and what the price is. |
| `get_live_quote` | The latest snapshot the Markets page shows. |
| `market_ohlcv` and `get_ohlcv` | Bars at 1, 5, 15 and 30 minutes, 1 hour and 1 day (and 4 hours on `market_ohlcv`), with the session basis of each bar. |
| `market_forex_bars` | Forex bars. |
| `market_futures_curve` | The futures curve across contract months. |
| `market_order_book` and `market_trades` | Depth and recent trades where we hold them. |

## Levels

| Tool | What it answers |
| - | - |
| `market_key_levels` | Prior-day, prior-week and prior-month highs and lows and closes, value-area levels, and GEX levels, each with the window it was cut from. |
| `market_prev_day_range` | The prior session's high, low, close, range and point of control, with the session each number covers. |
| `value_levels` | Value area high and low, point of control and VWAP for a session, with the high-volume and low-volume nodes. |
| `market_day_bands` | The expected range for the latest completed session, plus trailing 5-session and 20-session channels. |

## Options and GEX

| Tool | What it answers |
| - | - |
| `market_gex_levels` | Call wall, put wall, gamma flip, key support and resistance, with the snapshot time and age. |
| `market_gex_report` | The fuller GEX read: net exposure, regime and where price sits against the levels. |
| `get_gex` | The same calculation as the GEX page, including the zero-DTE summary where one exists. |
| `market_options_chain` | The options chain with the snapshot time. |
| `market_options_flow` | Recent options flow prints: contract, size, premium, side, price at the print, open interest, and whether it was a sweep or a block. The sentiment label on each print is inferred, not a confirmed direction, and no single print is a signal. |
| `market_volatility_index` | The volatility index reading. |
| `market_swing_model` | The options-implied range over the next 5 or 20 trading days: a downside and an upside level with the market-implied chance of finishing beyond each. |
| `market_swing_probability` | The chance that a price level is not touched within 1 to 10 trading days, for judging a stop or target. |

## Calendars and context

| Tool | What it answers |
| - | - |
| `market_earnings_calendar` | Upcoming and past earnings. |
| `market_economic_calendar` and `market_macro_events` | Scheduled economic releases and macro events. |
| `market_macro` | Daily values of one macro or rates series, such as Treasury yields, policy rates and inflation. The latest row is the last published business day, not a live reading. |
| `market_news` | News for a ticker or the market. |
| `market_company_financials` and `market_peer_valuation` | Financials and how a company compares with its peers. |
| `market_fund_holdings` and `market_institutional_holdings` | What a fund holds and who holds a stock. |
| `market_corporate_actions` | Splits and dividends. |

## Studies

Studies measure how often something happened before and what followed. They run on stored history and show the sample size. See [Studies](https://docs.traderos.ai/agent/studies.md) for the questions each answers.

| Tool | Study |
| - | - |
| `market_orb_study` | Opening range breakout |
| `market_initial_balance_breakout_study` | Initial balance breakout |
| `market_overnight_range_breakout_study` | Overnight range breakout |
| `market_gap_fill_study` | Gap fill |
| `market_atr_study` | ATR |
| `market_fvg_study` | Fair value gaps |
| `market_prev_days_range_study` and `market_prev_weeks_range_study` | Prior days' and weeks' range |
| `market_high_low_days_study` | High and low of the day |
| `market_outside_days_breakout_study` | Outside days |
| `market_red_green_days_study` | Red and green days |
| `market_session_correlation_study` | Session correlation |
| `market_event_study` | Price around a scheduled event |
| `market_similar_setups` | Past days that look like today |

## Your strategies and backtests

| Tool | What it answers |
| - | - |
| `list_strategies` | The strategies you have saved. |
| `strategy_spec_get` | The specification of a strategy. |
| `get_backtest` | The status and results of a backtest run. |
| `get_backtest_trades` | The individual trades of a run. |

Backtests start in the TraderOS Agent, where the cost is shown before it runs. Over MCP you read the results.

## Coverage

| Tool | What it answers |
| - | - |
| `market_coverage` | What data we hold for a ticker and how far back it goes. |
| `market_catalog` and `get_markets_and_tickers` | The markets and tickers you can ask about. |

An unknown ticker is not an error: TraderOS tells you what it holds and starts a request to add it.
